Lead On-Ice Instructor

Contract Period:  September, 2021 – June, 2022
Optional Employment: June, 2022 – September, 2022

Salary: Salary will commensurate with experience

Champions Hockey Academy is seeking a dynamic, motivated individual to join our team. If you are a self-starter who is enthusiastic, caring, and fun, we want you! 

POSITION:  Seasonal with option for extension.  LOCATION: Fredericton, NB

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Lead ice instructor is responsible for planning and executing tasks for all Champions Hockey Academy Programs. Programs will be offered to students from grades K to grade 12.  Tasks include, but are not limited to: creating on ice practice plans, orchestrating off-ice logistics, organizing equipment, and communicating program details to parents and participants. The person holding this position must have a strong hockey background and provide the highest level of customer service to all clients and parents of the facility.

 

The primary objective of the Lead Hockey Instructor for the 2021 On-Ice Clinics and Champions Hockey Academy Camps is to execute world-class hockey and skating development programs in keeping with the Champions Hockey Program philosophies. The Lead Hockey Instructor will be responsible for helping participants achieve their maximum potential, as well as continuously evaluating and improving the program curriculum and teaching methods to ensure all of the latest instructional techniques are being used. The successful candidate will also be responsible for training, coaching, and evaluating all instructional staff for hockey and skating programming run by Champions Hockey Academy.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong hockey background and skill development

  • Proven knowledge in planning, developing and implementing training and practice sessions

  • Can demonstrate a high level of skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting ability

  • Experience as a competitive minor hockey coach (coaching certification an asset)

  • Must be comfortable and enjoy working with children

  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic and positive

  • Nurture and develop athletes’ potential skills and abilities

  • Analyze and evaluate athletes and or teams performance and modify training programs as necessary

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

  • Strong work ethic

  • Team player

  • Must provide Basic security clearance

  • Speak-out (or Shared Respect) certification

  • Assist with administrative duties as per the direction of the Hockey Director.

 

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead on-ice sessions of CHA programs based on a schedule approved by the Head of Hockey Development and the Director, Hockey Programs

  • Prepare and execute innovative drills that challenge and maximize the potential of players of all levels

  • Execute skill development sessions for individuals that pushes them to their maximum potential, while using an approach that is positive and supportive

  • Staying up-to-date on all current teaching methods for hockey and skating skills through training (informal & formal), research, competitive analysis, and any other methods available

  • Build relationships with participants and/or parents and minor hockey association executives on a regular basis and as specific issues arise, in a professional and positive manner

  • Assist with the marketing of CHA programs when needed (including phone & e-mail communication, and in-person meetings with groups or individuals in our target market)

  • Other duties as assigned
