Roller Hockey

open floor - SESSION 1

gRANT HARVEY centre - JUNE 11, 2019

Champions Hockey will be hosting a first session for Roller Hockey on Tuesday June 11, 2019 at the Grant Harvey Centre.  This session will be an hour and a half and will include a first part of skills & drills and a second portion for game scrimmage.  The purpose of the first part of the session is to gain knowledge of roller hockey rules, to get players use to the surface and to assess abilities in order to ensure we have equalized teams for the second part including game competition.

Champions Hockey is always looking at player development, however players who have a basic knowledge and inline skating ability will have a distinct advantage over others.

Please Note:  This session is NOT designed to teach players how to skate with inline skates, it is geared towards building on fundamental skills already acquired.  Players participating in this session should have used inline skates in the past.  Inline skates require a very different skill set than ice skates and we want to make sure our group has a fun session and are able to maximize the use of the facilities.

Roller hockey is played on concrete, in the arena setting, with a slightly varied set of rules.  In order to participate, players require the following equipment.  (Winter hockey gear is fine)

  • Pair of inline skates (preferably with soft indoor wheels)

  • Shin pads

  • Protective Cup

  • Elbow pads

  • Hockey Gloves

  • Hockey Helmet

  • Protective Pants (Optional)

  • Shoulder Pads (Optional)

  • Water Bottle (It gets very warm in the rink and is important to hydrate)
