Technical Skating Mechanics with Shelley Kettles

This summer, Champions Hockey is proud to bring a unique development opportunity to Fredericton with Technical Skating Mechanics led by Shelley Kettles, Technical Skating Specialist with the Ottawa Senators.
This is not a standard skating clinic. These sessions are designed for athletes who want to better understand how they move on the ice and how improved skating mechanics can translate into greater speed, efficiency, balance, and control in game situations.
Shelley brings a high-level approach shaped by her work with elite players, combining technical precision with hockey-specific application. Her teaching focuses on the details that help athletes become stronger, more efficient skaters while building habits that carry into every area of the game.
Because of the level of instruction and attention involved, spaces will be limited in each group.
What Athletes Will Work On
Shelley’s teaching centers around the technical details that drive skating performance, including:
-
balance and body control
-
edge control and stability
-
stride mechanics and extension
-
skating efficiency
-
power generation
-
posture and alignment
-
movement patterns that transfer into game play
Her approach helps athletes understand not just how to skate harder, but how to skate better. By improving the small details within a player’s stride and edge work, athletes can create more speed, better control, and stronger overall movement on the ice.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
Shelley works with some of the best players in the world, helping NHL and PWHL athletes refine the skating foundation that drives elite performance. Her approach blends the precision of figure skating with the demands of high level hockey, focusing on balance, edge control, and powerful stride mechanics to create faster, more efficient skaters. During the NHL season she works closely with Ottawa players on their skating development, including spending significant time with Brady Tkachuk before Christmas while he was recovering from a hand injury, using the opportunity to focus on improving his stride mechanics and skating efficiency.
For players in our region and beyond, this is a rare opportunity to learn from a coach working with athletes at the highest levels of the game.
