U16 AAA Fredericton Caps Welcome Ève LeBlanc as Sport Psychologist

The U16 AAA Fredericton Caps are pleased to welcome Ève LeBlanc to the team as our Sport Psychologist for the upcoming season.

Currently completing her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of New Brunswick, Ève brings together her academic background, sport psychology research and firsthand experience as a university athlete. Her work has explored areas such as performance under pressure, mindfulness, stress and the overall well-being of athletes.

Before beginning her doctoral studies at UNB, Ève played U SPORTS hockey with the Saint Mary’s Huskies. During her time at Saint Mary’s, she was recognized for her accomplishments in athletics, academics and community service, receiving the U SPORTS Marion Hilliard Award in 2023. The national award recognizes excellence in hockey, academics and community involvement.

Her experience as both a psychology researcher and former university hockey player gives Ève a valuable understanding of the demands placed on young athletes. She knows that player development involves more than improving physical skills. Athletes must also learn to manage pressure, respond to mistakes, maintain confidence and balance the demands of hockey, school and everyday life.

As part of the Caps program, Ève will work with our players to introduce practical mental-performance strategies they can use throughout the season. Her support will help players develop skills related to focus, confidence, preparation, communication, emotional regulation and responding to adversity.

At the U16 level, players are entering an important stage in their development. Expectations increase, competition becomes stronger and players begin making decisions that may shape their future in hockey. Providing access to sport psychology support gives them another set of tools to help navigate those challenges in a healthy and productive way.

Ève’s role is also an important part of our commitment to supporting the whole athlete. While winning and performance matter, so do personal growth, mental well-being and the ability to carry lessons from hockey into school, relationships and life outside the rink.

We look forward to having Ève work with our players and coaching staff throughout the season and to adding her experience, perspective and knowledge to the U16 AAA Fredericton Caps program.
